Frequently Asked Questions

I found a stray animal that I'd like to help. Will Bliss take the animal for me?

Unfortunately, we are not able to take in strays from the general public.  Your best bet is to place a sign up in the area where you found the animal in an effort to find the owner.  You can also call animal control shelters and vet offices in the area and report the found pet. Also, any vet office will be able to scan the pet for a possible microchip, which will help track down the owner.  If you do not locate the owner and are unable to keep the animal yourself, try your best to rehome the animal through friends, family, church, etc.  Surrendering a found pet to animal control should be your last resort, as most if not all animal control facilities are overcrowded with high euthanasia rates.
One way we can help is to have you become a "foster home" for the stray you've found.  You will need to have the stray spayed/neutered, heartworm tested and vaccinated (through the low-cost clinic we work with: www.paradoxspayneuter.com).  After that is done, we can list the dog on our websites (you will need to email us a few good pictures and a written description) and you may bring the dog to our adoption events.  Upon adoption, we will split the adoption fee with you so that you get back most of the money you spent at the clinic.  Bliss will keep the other half as a fundraiser - money that will help our rescue dogs. Please email us: blissdogs@gmail.com

I can no longer keep my pet.  Can Bliss take him/her?

We are not able to physically take in your pet, but we can help you rehome him/her.  We will first help you figure out all your options.  If indeed you need to surrender your pet, we will need recent vet records to show that your pet is up-to-date on shots and heartworm preventative, as well as proof of spay/neuter.  With some decent pictures and a description, we can list the dog on our websites and you may bring the dog to our adoption events.  Upon adoption, we will split the adoption fee with you so that you get back most of the money you spent at the clinic.  Bliss will keep the other half as a fundraiser - money that will help our rescue dogs.  Please email us: blissdogs@gmail.com

What is Bliss Animal Haven's adoption process?

We strive to make the best match possible upfront based on the dog's temperament and your lifestyle.  Simply email us about which dog you are interested in meeting and we will email you an adoption application.  After reviewing your application, we will call you by phone and set up a time for you to meet the dog.  If this meet and greet goes well and it seems like the right fit, we will have you complete our adoption agreement, pay the adoption fee, and we will give you all the dog's health records. We ask that you give your new dog time to adjust to your home.  A change in environment can be very stressful for some dogs.  He or she may need training, patience, and lots of love and support.  If you encounter any issues with your new dog, we will gladly give you the support and advice of a certified behaviorist/trainer.  If you find that it is not the right match within the first 30 days, we will gladly take the dog back and refund your adoption fee.  If it is beyond 30 days and we do not have room to take the dog back, we ask that you foster the dog in your home and we will list him or her as available for adoption again.  We want to give you and your family enough support and resources to make the adoption successful and to help you and your new dog become truly bonded and happy!
